The reasons that drive a Noble Lord to take up the cross of a crusade are many and varied, oscillating between practical and spiritual motivations. But the result is often the same: a loyal nobleman at the head of an army made available to the Church to fight its designated enemies, without breaking the ancient laws that still govern it. These warriors, who have become the champions of the devout, inspire terror in their opponents, aware that no action is forbidden in their quest to eliminate the enemies of the Church.
