L'Orient
· The French Navy
L’Orient – an iconic flagship for Black Seas L’Orient is one of the most renowned vessels of the French Navy during the late 18th century. An Océan-class ship designed by naval engineer Jacques-Noël Sané, it belongs to the powerful three-deck 118-gun ships of the line. Launched in 1791 under the name Dauphin Royal, it was quickly renamed during a period of political upheaval, before becoming L’Orient, the name under which it is historically remembered. It notably served as flagship during the Egyptian campaign and played a central role in the French fleet at Aboukir.
